Grandma Porter

This one's for Grandma Porter in honor of her birthday. She would have turned 91 on the 4th! I love and miss you, Grandma!

So a while back I was talking to my sister, Andi. I felt very uplifted by her words. She helped me realize something important about putting people first. She told me a story about our grandma Porter. Andi said that once she went next door to visit her. When Andi walked in, Grandma immediately put away the Relief Society lesson she was preparing and focused all of her attention on Andi. It made an impression on her as to what it means to put others first. When we put others first, we are putting God first. And as President Benson has told us: "When we put God first, everything else falls into place." My grandma understood and applied that.

We got to talking about our wonderful grandma. We don't know what her personal trials were to speak of, but we do know how we felt in her presence. We do know she always had a ready smile and a welcoming hug. Andi told me that she remembers hearing that my dad's cousins always wanted to be at her house because of the way they felt around her. She put the Lord first by putting projects second (and she had MANY projects!!). Because people mattered, she showed by example that the Lord was number one on her list.
