Let Your Heart Sing!

I have started something wonderful! I have decided to read a few hymns along side my scripture study. It has been so wonderful and really invites the Spirit. (If I wasn't trying to keep sleeping children sleeping, I'd sing them for sure!) After I study the words of the hymn, I read the scriptures listed below the song.

I love what the front of the hymnbook says about scripture study in connection to hymns: "We hope the hymnbook will take a prominent place among the scriptures and other religious books in your homes. . . . Hymns can lift our spirits, give us courage, and move us to righteous action. They can fill our souls with heavenly thoughts and bring us a spirit of peace. Hymns can also help us understand the temptations of the adversary. We encourage you to memorize your favorite hymns and study the scriptures that relate to them" (Hymns of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints [Salt Lake City: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1985], x).

I have found that the hymns often guide me on what I should study that day in the scriptures and that what I read stays with me a lot more.
